Bariatric surgeon

We are pleased to introduce our bariatric surgeon Dr Jaan Kirss MD, PhD (born in 1985).

When asked what inspires him most about his work as a surgeon, Dr. Kirss said that he is inspired by the opportunity to change people’s lives – for the better, of course. The biggest compliment for him is from a patient who, after the surgery, came to thank him saying that she feels that she’s got her life back.

Jaan Kirss started his medical studies in Estonia at the University of Tartu 2005. In 2012 he moved to Finland and began to work at Vaasa Central Hospital. Dr. Kirss completed his residency in general surgery in Finland, at the University of Turku (2012-2019).

In 2019 he defended his doctoral thesis at the University of Turku and after that he worked as a general surgeon at the University Hospital of Turku as well as at the Central Hospital of Vaasa. Dr. Kirss joined the Bariatric Services team in the beginning of 2022.
