Last November I had gastric distillization surgery in Tallinn arranged by Merle from Bariatric Services and performed by Dr Kaur and I wrote a review saying how excellently everything had been done by both Merle and Dr Kaur. He said that at the time that should the amount of intestine bypassed not be sufficient and I did not have the expected weight loss then he would carry out further surgery free of charge. He was conservative in his surgery as my intestine was shorter than average and he did not want to bypass too much initially.
Les hele historienAt first I lost a small amount of weight but this did not continue nor was I able to maintain the loss so in August I contacted Merle again to ask for their help. As they had promised last year, further surgery was arranged at no cost to myself save for the travel and initial hotel stay. The arrangements were made swiftly and smoothly with Merle’s usual attention to detail and the date for surgery was set for 12th September. Merle picked me up from the hotel on that morning and took me to the hospital – a different, private one this time – and after the usual precautionary tests the surgery was done at lunchtime. Unfortunately I suffered a pulmonary embolism afterwards and had to be kept in intensive care for a couple of nights. The care I received was excellent from everyone – Dr Kaur, the nursing staff and other health professionals. When I was well enough to leave the hospital Merle took me back to the hotel for my last night in Tallinn – at no charge to me – and I returned home without further incident. I had been provided with all the necessary medications including blood thinning injections and tablets, vitamins and supplements and all the information that my doctor here in the UK needed to take over my care.
Since my return I have fully recovered very well and Merle has been in touch with me with questions from Dr Kaur. The dietician who advised me before I left the hospital has also emailed me with details of the supplements I need and where to obtain them.
I cannot praise everyone concerned highly enough. Just as last year, from beginning to end everything was done smoothly, efficiently and very professionally. In addition everyone was just so nice and kind. I am confident that this time the procedure will be successful – the fact that it did not work as well as it should have done before was entirely down to the peculiarities of my intestine and not any fault of the surgery. I would not hesitate to recommend both Bariatric Services and this procedure of distillization to anyone who is thinking about having it done. The best decision I’d made last year was to travel to Estonia for my gastric bypass surgery. The service I’d received from Merle was a clear indication of how my journey was going to be. She was courteous, responsive and empathetic. She arranged for me to speak to Dr. Kaur at my request. I had so many concerns and questions; Dr. Kaur patiently listened and was very forthcoming with his responses.

I had blood test done in december and all was good, I will have another one in the end of may, and have everything checked out again.

Hi! I have been obese from the age of six. Around my sixties I ended up to 125kg and my back, feet and ankles started to protest. I always ( until christmas 2017) thought that bariatric surgery is nothing for me. Started to study the new methods: could I possibly make such a radical change in my life and take all the risks of complications? Be the girl who never eats more than one slice of pizza, if any? The process before surgery was extremely simple compared to the process on public health care here in Finland. (And yes, I work at one of our University Hospitals with my overweight).

For more than 15 years I struggled with my weight. Considering that I’m only 31 years old 15 years is a long time. I tried every way to loose weight but always ended up gaining more. After I had my daughter in 2013 the weight gaining got completely out of control. In the summer of 2017 I was at my heaviest both physically and mentally and in July I finally admitted that I not only wanted help, I needed it.

September 5th 2017 is they day my new life began. That’s the day I had gastric bypass surgery performed by Dr. Ilmar Kaur. I was never nervous, not once. I was only excited and everyone took such a good care of me. Being a licensed practical nurse and now a nursing student I looked at everything at the hospital with different eye too and I can honestly say that everything was excellent both related to hygiene and professionalism. The staff was very helpful and kind and I felt very secure the whole time.
Dr. Ilmar was there when I came and showed me the hospital room, he then checked on me at least twice a day the whole time I was in the hospital. When discharged I got excellent patient education about life after surgery both from Dr. Ilmar and nurse Anni Laas and was ready to start my new life on my own – though I wanted to take everyone back to Iceland with me 🙂
Since I got back home I’ve been doing really well and have not experienced any complications. It’s now almost 8 months since the surgery and I have lost 35 kilos. I am only 5-7 kilos away from my ideal weight and that is something I thought I would never experience. I haven’t felt so good about myself in years and life is much more easier, both for me and the closest people around me.
I haven’t taken stomach medicine since I got back home but I took 40 mg of Esomeprazol daily before surgery because of bad acid reflux. I also do not need to take medicine for anxiety anymore. I was in high risk of getting diabetes type 2 but that’s not a problem now.
I can eat anything, really, but I now focus on meals as a nutrition so I choose my meals well. If I don’t do that it will result in less energy throughout the day and I don’t feel well physically. I also take vitamins daily, that’s really important and not as hard to remember as I thought it would be.
I now exercise because I want to and it’s a completely different feeling going to the gym and actually like it. I can also do things there that I could never do before. I can now sit on the floor playing with my daughter and run with her up and down stairs without having a hard time to breath.
I can not thank Dr. Ilmar Kaur and all of the Bariatric Services team enough. They will always have a special place in my heart and I will be forever grateful to them.
I have lost 21 kg and my weight is 72 kg. I am very happy with the results of the surgery and I feel great. I can eat everything without a problem. Les hele historienI gained and lost weight dozens of times: losing 10 kg, gaining 15 kg. I knew very well how to lose weight by using diet and sport. And I knew how to hold it. But my problem was laziness. As soon as I lost weight, I failed to hold it: to celebrate the loss, I ate a lot and gained weight back.
It was 7 years ago, when I heard first about the stomach reduction surgery in a TV program, where there were very fat people. For them, this surgery was vital.
I made a final decision to go for the stomach reduction to lose weight in this way in 2013, after I met and talked to a friend who had undergone this surgery at Dr. Kaur’s clinic.
After meeting her, I signed up for a consultation with Dr. Kaur. I was 26 then and I weighed somewhere around 125 kg, although I’m pretty tall, 180 cm.
The surgery was appointed on 13 January 2015. During the New Year night, I certainly ate well, but after that I told myself to stop. Enough. And since 1 January, my new life has begun.
What in this entire saga helped me a lot in making a decision was the communication with people, who had already undergone this surgery. I also read all the forums and all the information on this issue on the Internet.
A month after the surgery, I lost about 10 kg.
As a result, a year and a half after the surgery, I have 47 kg off and I feel wonderful!
Today I’m not a full-figured girl looking at slim guys and dreaming. Now I’m a beautiful and slender girl, doing sports!
Now, when I am eating, my eyes play a major role. I know visually how much food I can accommodate. So I eat accordingly. If I eat a little more, I feel bad: food gets stuck in my throat. But this happens rarely – I get used to it. I eat whatever I want, but bit by bit.
If earlier, under stress, I immediately sat down and ate, now it’s the other way around. I do not want to eat.
Frankly speaking, my fondness for sweets persists. But today 2 to 3 candies are enough – I just don’t want more.
I’m very happy that I decided to take this step and underwent this surgery! I can wholeheartedly advise it to everyone, who has extra weight and who tried all the other ways.
Recently had a mini gastric bypass under Dr. Ilmar Kaur. I found Dr. Kaur to be an outstanding surgeon. The treatment I received well under his care was excellent. I can not recommend him highly enough. From my initial contact with Kaire the coordinator, I knew I was going to be in good hands. I traveled from Ireland and was in Estonia for 5 days. The first night was spent in a nice hotel in the centre of Tallinn and remaining nights in a private room in a private clinic. I was met at the airport etc. Dr. Kaur speaks fluent English and checked in on my twice a day during my hospital stay. Outstanding.
I am 10 days post bypass revision surgery and l cannot thank Dr. Ilmar Kaur and his bariatrics team enough. I traveled on my own for the surgery and they took incredible care of me. I contacted the surgery coordinator sometime around June 2017. I was able to arrange for two surgeries for my dad and myself. He had his surgery at the end of August and I had mine at the end of September. It was a great experience for both of us. The quality of care is outstanding. The doctor and the nursing team is great.

There are a lot of parts of the process: initial consultation, travel and surgery arrangement, arrival, pre-surgical screening, surgery, post-surgical care and post-surgical screening which does not end after the departure. And each part was done smoothly, basically, we were dealing with a very competent group of people who know what they are doing.
I am very grateful to Dr. Ilmar Kaur and his team for everything they had done for me and my father. I am in a great physical shape. My quality of life, as well as my health, is improving dramatically. I would highly recommend them.

My history began 5 years ago when I was 30 years old. Early in life I was an active man and went in for sports a lot. There was nothing to pay much attention to except athletic injuries. My height is 199 cm and weight early in life was just about 105 kg what was ideal in view of the height.

Since my 30 years, problems with health began to arise little by little. The first symptom was an increase of blood pressure and weariness. During the following couple of years, the weight gradually began to increase and health got worse. When the weight came to more than 125 kg, I decided to do something in order that the weight would decrease. I went to a doctor of diabetes. After a realized analysis, it had been found that blood sugar was out of norm and an urgent treatment was needed. It was 3.5 years ago and I was prescribed the peroral drug therapy. However it did not achieve expectable results, the health got worse still more, the weight increased and there was severe fatigue. The blood sugar was not stable, it varied all the time within the limits from 8 to 15. During those three years, I additionally tested various diets, significantly changed my customs to take meals but everything was useless.
A year ago the matter went so far that I was diagnosed diabetes of the second degree and prescribed insulinization. At that time I thought that there was no more salvation and everything went to death. I had to administer injections of insulin with various actions 5 times a day. Volumes were astronomical. During that year the weight reached more than 145 kg. Variation of the blood sugar forced to eat and the health did not allow it to continue in that way.
I gave up everything as lost and lived with the attitude “I live until I live” as some doctors told me.
I met with my good acquaintance and friend who told me about the operation which yielded very good results in case of such a disease and such symptoms. I got to know that bariatric operations were made in Tallinn and decided to go to a consultation. Having listened to a doctor, I quickly made a decision. I thought that I was given a new chance; there was a sensation of beginning of the new life hope for which should be seized.
My operation was carried out by Dr Ilmar Kaur in Tallinn in the beginning of 2017. From the moment when I emerged and got to know that everything was OK, I had not to be disappointed with anything. When I had the operation, I weighed 143 kg and administered the injections five times a day as before. From the first day after the operation, I had not to administer the injections any more and take other medicines (reducing blood pressure) except vitamins. The blood sugar was within the limits from 4.2 to 6.3 what is very good showing and at present the weight has been reduced up to 120 kg. I feel well and it seems as if I were born again. Helpings of my meal decreased noticeably but quality, undoubtedly, became better. I can eat so frequently as I want and the blood sugar does not force me to eat any more as it was in the past.
I visited my doctor of diabetes. After receipt of answers to new analyses, he said me that I was healthy and had a wonderful improvement! It seems to be a wonder but it is my reality. Everything seems to be excellent to a person who reads this letter but it is a matter of fact. For the present moment, I am very happy and satisfied with this result.
Once again, I would like to thank the medical man, Dr Ilmar Kaur, who was my surgeon and advised me this operation. I thank everybody who encouraged me and helped me. You should believe, wonders are not disappeared and chances are always available.

Jeg begynte å lette etter slankeoperasjoner for en stund siden og til slutt tok jeg initiativet til å besøke min lokal fedme klinikk for å bestilte en time, samt å få snakket med leger, anestesileger, ernæringsfysiologer, osv. Alle som skulle være involvert i operasjonen. Inntrykket jeg satt igjen med etter et møte med fedmeklinikken var mer eller mindre som en ku i en slakteri, men allikevel bestemte jeg meg for å ta operasjonen der basert på den informasjonen jeg hadde der og da. Når jeg ga opplysningene til min fastlege om dette var det han selv som anbefalte meg å ta operasjonen i utlandet.

Når jeg gikk tom for flere spørsmål fattet jeg beslutningen min med å ta gastric sleeve hos Bariatric Services i Tallinn.
Merle hentet meg på flyplassen og kjørte meg til hotellet. Dagen etter kjørte hun meg til sykehuset hvor jeg fikk mitt egen rom inkludert bad, wifi, tv, osv. Sykepleieren tok blodprøver og jeg fikk treffet Dr. Ilmar Kaur som var min kirurg som gjennomgikk alle detaljene for inngrepet både de gode og de dårlige. Noe som gjorde meg trygg var at jeg bestemte meg for å ta operasjonen i et sykehus (Nord Estland Medisinske Senteret) og ikke i en klinikk, dette i tilfelle noe skulle skje og jeg måtte fraktes til et sykehus.
Sykepleierne tok så godt være på meg. Hver gang jeg trengte hjelp var de der med engang og jeg hadde aldri noe problemer med språket. Selvfølgelig har de aksent, men det har jeg også! vi forstå hverandre uten problem og det var aldri noe misforståelse på grunn av dette. Jeg ville understreke at Dr. Kaur besøkte meg hver eneste dag opptil to ganger om dagen for å se hvordan jeg hadde det. Jeg fikk også møte bariatric sykepleier (som er spesialist i slankeoperasjon) Kristen Janvest, hver dag mens jeg var der og hensikt var å få gode råd på hvordan jeg skulle forandre spisevanene mine, hun ga meg en mat plan som jeg skulle følge de dagene og ukene etter operasjon samt resten av livet mitt.
Til tross for at det har bare vært veldig få uker etter operasjonen min ville jeg gjerne gi min sterkeste anbefaling for Bariatric Services. Merle fortsetter å være en god kontaktperson samt sjekker og reporterer til legene på hvordan jeg har det og svarer på alle spørsmålene mine. Jeg ville også peke at mine medisiner har blitt redusert og blir sikkert fjern om noe uker maks en måned.
Jeg er takknemlig for hele erfaringen som jeg har opplevd samt vært én av de beste beslutninger som jeg har tatt i mitt liv.
Da jeg fant ut at jeg skulle ta Gastric bypass da var jeg usikker for det var så mange å velge i mellom på nettet og forskjellige priser. Men til syvende å sist så valgte jeg Tallinn etter jeg hadde sendt flere mailer og fikk positiv tilbake meldinger,bestemte jeg meg for å dra.

Da jeg kom til Tallinn da blei jeg møtt av ei veldig hyggelig dame som het Merler og hun kjørte meg til et kjempe fint hotell rett ved flyplassen som jeg skulle overnatte til dagen etter.
Tirsdag morgen da blei jeg henta og kjørt til sykehuset,der fikk jeg ett eget rom meg eget bad og flatskjerm,veldig bra standard. Etter en stund fikk jeg hilse på kirurgen Ilmar som fortalte meg om hva som skulle skje.
klokka tre blei jeg kjørt ned for å opereres og alle var veldig hyggelige. Da jeg våknet opp da blei jeg kjørt opp på rommet mitt igjen og fikk beskjed om hvis jeg hadde no vondt så måtte jeg bare si fra så skulle jeg få smertestillende. sov til dagen etter og da var jeg i utrolig fin form jeg var øm men ingen uholbare smerter. Kirurgen var innom 2 ganger daglig og prata med meg. Jeg var der i 4 dager og betalte 50000 kr og det var verdt hver eneste krone. Hvis noen leser dette å vurderer å ta Gastric bypass så anbefaler jeg å kontakte Bariatric Services i Tallinn. Bra sykehus og veldig flinke leger. Etter mye frem og tilbake, og mange tanker, samtaler med leger, forskjellige sykehuser bestemte jeg meg for en gastric bypass operasjon. men da jeg har for liten BMI og ingen følge sykdomer, måtte jeg betale det selv. Så gikk det litt mere tid til å google sykehus i utlande som tilbyr denne operasjon. Og hvilke prisklasser de hadde. Etter mange mail frem og tilbake til forskjellige sykehus,falt valget mitt på Bariatric Services. Og jeg har ikke angret.

Jeg taber mig stadig men skal kæmpe lidt for det , men det gør ikke noget da det hele langt opvejer den smule arbejde.
Jeg fik taget blodprøver efter 3 måneder og det var fine tal over alt. Efter 7 måneder var jeg i lidt underskud af kalk, så jeg blev sat op i dosis. Og jeg skal nu den 24/4 til nye blodprøver, så de kan se om alt er ok igen. Jeg har fået opereret mine øjenlåg , og det var rigtig godt.
Jeg føler at rigtig mange ting er blevet lettere for mig nu. Jeg vil rigtig gerne tabe 15 kilo mere så jeg hænger bare i . Det er pludseligt sjovt at handle tøj , så jeg klæder mig meget anderledes end før . Selv min skostørrelse er gået ned.
Jeg har ikke haft problemer af nogen slags. Tak for det. Jeg har ikke haft mavekramper ingen opkastninger og aldrig prøvet det som andre GB operere kalder dumping.
Jeg er bare så glad og tilfreds. Jeg var måske lidt nervøs for at det ikke ville gå så nemt da jeg jo ikke er helt ung mere , men 63 år har ikke været nogen hindring for mig .
Jeg vil til en hver tid anbefale andre at tage ned til jer . Jeg følte mig velkommen , i var alle hjælpsomme og det hele gik fuld ud efter planen .
